Abstract

Introduction: This research is based on the use of 5Es teaching methods to enhance students' learning outcomes in 7th grade math, specifically in fraction lesson, at Net Yang High School. The purpose of this study was to (1) examine the students' learning outcomes when learning with the 5Es teaching method in fraction lesson, (2) compare the students' learning outcomes after teaching using 5Es teaching methods and traditional teaching methods in fraction lesson, and (3) measure students' satisfaction with learning and teaching 5Es teaching methods in fraction lesson on mathematic.

Method: This research was conducted using a Quasi-Experimental Design, a three-week study conducted at Net Yang High School in the 2022-2023 school year with a total of 50 representative samples from two different classes to determine the effectiveness of the 5Es teaching methods. The purposive sampling method was used to select the sample representatives, with the experimental group taught using the 5Es teaching method and the control group taught using the traditional teaching method, each with 25 participants. This research follows a quantitative approach and uses research tools such as pre-test and post-test, as well as a questionnaire satisfaction to measure students' satisfaction on the Likert scale. Data were analyzed in Microsoft Excel (HAD) to calculate mean, standard deviation, and p-value was set the value α=0.05

Results: Pre-tests between the experimental group and the control group showed no significant differences. However, after teaching, the results obtained showed a large effect size of 1.262, indicating a significant difference between the experimental group taught by the 5Es teaching method (x̅ = 75.00; S.D = 13.540) and the control group taught using the traditional teaching method (x̅ = 59.200; S.D = 10.962). This indicates that after teaching, the experimental group achieved better academic results on the level of knowledge of the lesson than the control group. In addition, the experimental group also demonstrated high levels of satisfaction with the 5E teaching method.

Conclusion: This research found that the use of 5Es teaching methods has increased the learning outcomes of students and their ability to learn lessons using their prior knowledge. Therefore, this research suggests that math teachers should use the 5Es teaching method because it provides students with the opportunity to work in groups, think critically, be creative, and learn to solve problems on their own.
