This research report explores common factors affecting Cambodian university students’ reading fluency, focusing on first-, second-, and third-year students at the National University of Cheasim Kamchaymear (NUCK) in Kampong Cham Province. The data were gathered using a quantitative approach. The study’s objectives were to examine the extent to which students are affected in reading English and to explore whether there is a significant difference in motivation levels between male and female students regarding English reading.
A total of 100 students participated in the study. The findings indicated that students were highly affected in their English reading fluency. Additionally, the study found that female students at NUCK demonstrated higher motivation toward reading fluency compared to their male counterparts.
The report recommends that future research be conducted with a larger sample size and at other educational institutions across the country, employing a variety of statistical analyses. Furthermore, qualitative and mixed-method research designs are also recommended for future studies.
