Author Guidelines

Authors submitting manuscripts to the Cambodian Journal of Educational and Social Sciences (CJESS) must follow the guidelines below and consult the journal's Focus and Scope before submission. These guidelines represent the minimum requirements for manuscripts submitted to CJESS.

1. Scope and Originality

Manuscripts must fall within the Focus and Scope of CJESS and make a relevant scholarly contribution to education or the social sciences.

Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not simultaneously submitted to or under consideration by another journal. Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their work.

All manuscripts are subject to originality screening in accordance with the journal's Plagiarism Screening and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.

2. Article Types and Length

CJESS accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles: normally 6,000–8,000 words, including references, tables, and figures. Original research articles should report research based on primary data and employ an appropriate and clearly explained research methodology.
  • Review Articles: normally 3,000–8,000 words, including references, tables, and figures. Review articles should provide a systematic, critical, or scholarly synthesis of existing literature and clearly explain the approach used to identify, analyze, or synthesize relevant sources.
  • Book Reviews: minimum 1,500 words. Book reviews should critically evaluate a scholarly book relevant to the journal's Focus and Scope rather than merely summarize its contents.

Manuscripts outside these recommended word ranges may be considered at the discretion of the editorial team when academically justified.

3. Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear academic English.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are grammatically accurate, coherent, and understandable before submission. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's minimum language standards may be returned to authors for language revision before editorial assessment or peer review.

Authors may use professional language-editing services when necessary; however, the use of any particular commercial editing service is not required for submission or publication in CJESS.

4. Manuscript Structure

Original research articles should normally contain the following major components, where appropriate:

Title → Abstract → Keywords → Introduction → Literature Review → Research Methodology → Results/Findings → Discussion → Conclusion and/or Recommendations → Declarations → References

The exact organization may vary according to the research design, discipline, and nature of the study.

Review articles should use a structure appropriate to the type of review and should clearly describe the methodology or procedures used to identify, select, evaluate, and synthesize the literature where applicable.

5. Title, Abstract, and Keywords

The manuscript title should be clear, concise, informative, and representative of the content of the study.

All manuscripts except book reviews must include an English-language abstract of 200–250 words.

The abstract should clearly summarize the purpose of the study, methodology, major findings, and principal conclusion, as appropriate to the type of manuscript.

Authors must provide five keywords immediately following the abstract. Keywords should accurately represent the main concepts of the manuscript and facilitate indexing and discoverability.

6. Referencing and Citations

CJESS uses the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition referencing style.

Authors must ensure that:

  • all in-text citations correspond accurately to entries in the reference list;
  • all works included in the reference list are cited in the manuscript;
  • bibliographic information is complete and accurate;
  • Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are included when available; and
  • references are relevant and appropriate to the manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to use reference-management software such as Mendeley, EndNote, or Zotero to improve accuracy and consistency. Manual referencing is also accepted provided that references fully comply with APA 7th edition requirements.

Authors are responsible for verifying all references against their original sources.

7. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be clearly numbered, appropriately titled, and referred to in the text.

Authors must ensure that tables, figures, photographs, illustrations, and other visual materials are legible and of sufficient quality for publication.

Materials reproduced or adapted from previously published sources must be appropriately acknowledged. Authors are responsible for obtaining any permissions required for copyrighted material that is not covered by an appropriate license or exception.

8. Research Ethics and Informed Consent

Research involving human participants must comply with applicable institutional, national, and international ethical requirements.

Where required, authors must obtain approval from an appropriate institutional ethics committee, institutional review board, or authorized ethical review body and provide relevant information in the manuscript.

Where applicable, authors must obtain informed consent from participants or their authorized representatives and protect participants' privacy, confidentiality, and personal information.

For studies involving animals, authors must comply with applicable ethical requirements and report relevant ethical approval where required.

9. Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other conflicts of interest that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.

If no relevant conflict of interest exists, authors may include a statement such as:

Conflict of Interest: The author(s) declare no conflict of interest.

10. Funding

Authors must disclose all relevant sources of financial support or research funding.

Where applicable, the funding organization and grant number should be provided.

If the research received no external funding, authors may state:

Funding: This research received no external funding.

11. Author Contributions

Authors should ensure that all individuals listed as authors have made substantial scholarly contributions to the work and have approved the submitted manuscript.

Individuals who contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.

The journal may request clarification of individual author contributions when necessary.

12. Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies

Authors must comply with the journal's Plagiarism Screening and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.

Generative AI tools and large language models cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, citations, references, and ethical compliance of all manuscript content, including AI-assisted material.

Substantive use of generative AI in developing, analyzing, or revising manuscript content must be appropriately disclosed. Routine use solely for spelling, grammar, formatting, or basic language improvement does not normally require disclosure.

Where disclosure is required, authors should identify the AI tool and briefly explain its purpose.

13. Manuscript Formatting and Templates

Authors must prepare manuscripts according to the CJESS formatting requirements and use the appropriate journal template.

CJESS provides separate templates for:

Authors should ensure that the manuscript follows the applicable template before submission.

14. Double-Blind Peer Review Preparation

CJESS uses a double-blind peer-review process involving at least two independent reviewers for research and review articles considered for publication.

Authors should prepare manuscripts in a manner that supports anonymous review. Where required by the submission system or journal template, identifying information should be provided separately from the anonymized manuscript.

Authors should avoid unnecessarily revealing their identities within the manuscript during the review stage.

15. Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted through the CJESS online submission system.

Authors must provide accurate information concerning authorship, affiliations, contact details, manuscript title, abstract, keywords, and other required metadata during submission.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and for ensuring that all co-authors have approved the submission.

Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee publication. Manuscripts are subject to editorial screening and, where appropriate, peer review in accordance with the journal's policies.

16. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright in articles published by CJESS.

Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). The license permits sharing and adaptation, including commercial reuse, provided that appropriate attribution is given, a link to the license is provided, changes are indicated, and derivative works are distributed under the same or a compatible license.

17. Author Charges

CJESS does not charge authors any fees at any stage of submission, editorial assessment, peer review, or publication.

There are no submission fees, article processing charges (APCs), peer-review fees, page charges, publication fees, or other author charges.

Submission and publication in CJESS are completely free of charge.
